I saw the movie based on this book many years ago. It wasn’t very well received but I was still intrigued. I love the escapism that reading these sort of fantasy novels offer. I have read the ‘Harry Potter’ series, along with a range of other fantasy novels more than once and decided it was time to spread my scope.

I must say that this book might not be for everyone, but I found it an enjoyable read. It did take a while to get into the actual plot of the story though. The first chapter or so of the book is helping you get acquainted with the lead protagonist, Eargon, however, for those that want to be intrigued from page one, this book doesn’t offer that. I had that problem when I first tried to read ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone’ , but I eventually got into the book and the series, and couldn’t wait to get to the next book, waiting impatiently for the last three books to be published and buying them the day they were released.

But back to ‘Eargon’. Wihtout ruining the storyline for those who might want to read this series themselves, it is about a young boy who finds a dragon egg and the challenges that he faces following this, losing family and friends along the way, and discovering what his density really is. As with any good book, there are twists and turns along the way, secrets are revealed and there is an enemy, betrayals and everything else that makes up a good book. There is also the added mystery that comes with magic, elves and dwarves and a range of other otherworldly creatures.

At the time of writing this I have already read the first two books in the series and have started on the third. I find that when I start a series, I have to read the whole thing because I can’t stand not knowing how the story will end.

Stay tuned for the follow-up once I complete books three and four in the series.
